Discover Variable Speed Technology

Depending on the facility, refrigeration applications can consume anywhere from 30-40% of a building’s energy. Implementing variable speed technology can eliminate unnecessary energy consumption by modulating the refrigerant flow by varying the speed of the compressor motor. The compressor motor speed determines the rate of refrigerant flow. Therefore, by varying the motor frequency, capacity can be modulated. Capacity output increases and decreases with motor speed.

Copeland Horizontal Variable Speed Scroll Compressor

For OEMs of self-contained systems, meeting new design and sustainability requirements can present significant challenges. Achieving high energy efficiencies requires the use of large-capacity condenser coils that reduce available merchandising space. The placement of a standard vertical compressor can increase the case size, limit its aesthetic appeal, and create higher noise levels.

Copeland Variable Frequency Drives for Commercial HVACR

The motor loads from heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment are among the greatest consumers of electricity in the commercial building sector.
